unglazed clay fish bowl set — 2 piece, traditional terracotta for fish

Fish cooked in clay is a different result than fish cooked in stainless or aluminum. The clay retains moisture and circulates heat evenly around the fish — the result is fish that stays moist through the entire cook time. The bowl shape is designed for fish: deep enough to hold the fish plus cooking liquid, wide enough for a whole fish to lay flat.

Why We Selected This Piece

At Rootsware, we selected unglazed Anatolian terracotta because it is the material that Turkish, Middle Eastern, and Balkan kitchens have trusted for slow cooking for centuries. No coating, no glaze, no synthetic layer between the clay and your food.

Before Your First Use

  1. Rub the entire surface — inside and out — with a thin layer of cooking oil.
  2. Place in a cold oven. Do not preheat first.
  3. Heat gradually to 350F (175C) and hold for one hour.
  4. Allow to cool completely inside before removing.

Care & Cleaning

  • Hand-wash only with warm water. Never use soap — the clay absorbs it.
  • For stubborn residue, scrub gently with baking soda and rinse.
  • Dry completely before storing. Store with lid slightly open.
  • Not suitable for induction. Compatible with gas, electric, and oven.
