Collection: Clay & Terracotta Cookware

Clay cookware is not a trend — it is the oldest cooking material in human history, and the reason it is still in use across Turkey, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean is simple: food cooked in clay tastes different. The porous surface retains moisture, distributes heat evenly, and adds a depth of flavor that stainless steel and aluminum cannot produce.

At Rootsware, we carry both unglazed and glazed Anatolian terracotta, handcrafted in the pottery workshops of Cappadocia and the Aegean. Unglazed clay is the more traditional format: no coating, no glaze, direct contact between the clay and the food. Glazed clay offers the same heat retention with a sealed surface that is easier to clean — the right choice for households that want the benefits of clay cooking without the intensive care routine.

Every piece in this collection is lead-free and free of synthetic coatings. Compatible with gas, electric, and oven cooking — not induction. Each piece is handmade, which means slight variations in texture, color, and form are natural and expected.

For the diaspora household that grew up eating guvec, slow-cooked lamb, or clay-pot rice — this is the cookware that produces those results.
